This is fantastic, magnificent, and incredible. Things that look dangerous often make good photography.

Great shot. A story of disaster, perhaps? Looks like the lighthouse is engulfed by floods. Whatever, that water is not peaceful. Well-timed shot.

Location
This photo was taken in "Foz do Douro" (Douro river's mouth), in Oporto city - Portugal. This the Felgueiras Lighthouse.Time
It was taken at 16:30Lighting
The shot was taken under natural lighting in a some kind of cloudy day. The atmosphere was very nice with warm colors, even at this time of the day. So I took advantage of that emphasize the contrast between the warmth and softness of the clouds and sky and the strong waves.Equipment
Shot taken with a Canon EOS 5D mark II. The lens is a TAMRON 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM and I also used a TRIOPO tripod. Of course the camera+lens protected with a rain cover and I used a remote shutter for ease of use.Inspiration
I was after a shot like this for a while. This spot is very well known but not often it gives you great shots. You have to be patient and come back over and over... That's what I did until finally I get the shot!Editing
I did some post-processing in Lightroom 5. In this shot I preferred to leave it the most natural looking possible. I just had to bump a little the clarity and contrast in the sky and also lowered a little the exposure. Also bumped up a little the shadows in the lighthouse, and other than that was fine tunning the overall contrast, exposure and saturation. And, of course, some sharpening and noise reduction. In my camera bag
Camera: Canon EOS 6D Lenses: Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 (my preferred lens)+Nikon to Canon adapter, TAMRON 70-300 f/4-5.6 USM, Canon 24-105 f/4 USM Flash: Yongnuo YN500EX flash + pair of YN622 transceivers Tripod: Triopo MX1327+ RS3 Ball Heasd Other: several filters (polarizers, ND and ND Grad) and filter holders, cleaning clothes, memory cards, spare battery for camera, a Gorila tripodFeedback
Please keep a safe distance from the waves! Be aware of the moist that is everywhere and have with you cleaning clothes. You'll have to be cleaning your lens all the time. Protect your camera+lens with a rain cover and a plastic bag at least. Have with you an umbrella because there are chances to start raining. Use a tripod and a remote shutter because that way you'll be much more comfortable and ready to wait "hours" for the right timing. Use the sweet spot of your lens and set the shutter speed at something between 1/500 and 1/2000 of a second, adequate the ISO for the right exposure. And don't ignore the composition, and position yourself in the best possible place to take the shot...
