I took the photo of the musician in Central Park at the Bethesda Terrace. I then merged him with a more drastic background.Time
I would go to Central Park during the afternoons. It was at that time that you would see so many street musicians, dancers and singers. It was like a live show one after another.Lighting
I used a flash to capture him because it was inside the Bethesda Terrace and it's rather dark in there. While he was light up partially by the outside light, he still needed a fill flash.Equipment
I used my Canon Rebel T3i with the built in flash. This was my starter camera. I now use a Canon 6D.Inspiration
I loved how into the music he was. He was singing a sort of opera, chanting loudly. I had taken many photos of him but this particular image struck me as the most dramatic.Editing
I did photo manipulation for this one with Lightroom and Photoshop. I gave the image warmer tones and a stronger contrast for effect. In my camera bag
Right now I have my Canon 6D and my flash. I travel light. I also use a Canon lense (24-105 L series lens).Feedback
Central Park is a jewel inside the city that never sleeps. If you go to the Bethesda Fountain area on a warm day (or even a cold day) you will find it alive with music, dancing, and people. I have taken thousands of photos there, and every day brings something different. Be prepared with a fast lens because you will want to capture fast action shots. A flash is also good because if you go into the terrace area, you will need light.
