Location
It was taken in Mount Bromo, Surabaya, Indonesia. The place was named the sea of sand. The whole area was covered with ash from the active volcano, early in the morning when the sun is just about to rise, the whole area will be covered with fog and dust, hence it created a very unique atmosphere.Time
This is about 5 to 6 am in the morning, after we came down from the view point to see the scenic sunrise of mount Bromo, visitors are then go down to the sea of sand to visit the volcano, we can either hide a horse, or just by walking.Lighting
This photo was taken using a zoom len of micro forth third format of 300 mm. From far distance i saw this view, 3 people with a horse, and a longly tree at the background, it really looks very dramatic with the heavy foggy atmosphere and also the sun ray shining on top.Equipment
Olympus OMD EM1, Olympus 75-300 mm.Inspiration
The interaction between human and animal. Surrounding atmosphere does create a strong sensation and feeling.Editing
Just slightly post processed to bring up the saturation and the warmth of this photo. This photo doesn't really need to be post processed too much, i prefer it to be simple and nature. In my camera bag
My camera Olympus OMD EM1, and my favourite len for landscape will be Olympus 14-40 Pro len and 7-14 Pro len. 75- 300 mm is also one of my favourite especially for zooming to a far end spot. It always gives me surprise to zoom in to certain spot and help me to see thing differently.Feedback
Tele photo len will help a lot in this environment, first of all we can just shoot anything we want without alerting the subject, and secondly is that there are many activities going around , either the horses, the horseman, or the visitors....there are interacting with each other and we can easily catch some beautiful moment by standing far away and observe and shoot.
