the mating of damselflies...

this photo was taken at a water lily pond near my house... when I tried to shot a pink water lily, these damselfly was alight on it's leaf. I used available light, ISO 400, apperture F-5,6 and shutter speed 1-250 second then cropping and enhance contrast, saturation and sharpness in post processing.

Behind The Lens

Location

this photo was taken at a lotus pond about 15 minutes away from my home

Time

at 08:24 AM, it's a GMT+8 time zone

Lighting

It was natural light, the sun position was behind me and hindered by leafs of several trees at the edge of that pond, so the light was not too harsh

Equipment

Sony Alpha SLT A-77 camera with Tamron 90mm F/2,8 Macro lens, I didn't use any other acessories I take that photo handheld lying flat on my stomach like a snipper at the edge of that pond and use my elbows as a tripod

Inspiration

There is no special inspiration, It was a routine macro photo hunt at my favorite spot where a lot of damselflies there and in the morning between 07:00 until 09:00 is the perfect time to shot a mating damselfly Since I saw that damselflies couples mating at the edge of lotus leaf I thought it will be nice photo because the curve of that lotus leaf was awesome

Editing

I take around 10 frames in RAW and choose the best one then did the post-processing : - Cropping, to get a nice composition - Adjust saturation and level - Enhance detail and sharpness

In my camera bag

my photograpy passions are macro and landscape, so minimum in my bag I have : - Sony Alpha SLT A-77 camera - Tamron 90mm F/2,8 Macro lense - Carl Zeiss Flektogon 20mm F/4 manual lense - a set of ND & GND Filter including filter holder & adapter ring

Feedback

- the damselflies live in a spot near water (pond, river, waterfall etc) - the best time to shot them is around 07:00 until 09:00 in the morning - using available/ambient light is better than using artificial light - when the sun light was too harsh we must diffuse it - hunting with friend is better to help each other blocking the sun light - be patient :D
