Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the Beautiful Central Coast of NSW in Australia.

Time

I woke up around 4:30am. Looked outside and thought it's so still. Perfect morning for an ocean shot. It wasn't cold which made even more enjoyable.

Lighting

The lighting was perfect. The clouds took all the sharpness away from the sun. And at the same time put on this display that was so colourful.

Equipment

I used a canon 1dx with canon 16-35mm f4 and a graduated filter all set up on a tripod. I used a wireless remote to minimise any shake.

Inspiration

When I first got to the location. I though that the clouds might close up completely. Then I saw this bird standing on a large rock. Not to sure of the breed of bird but I new it was one of those that stand with there wings open to absorb the morning sun. It was like it was telling me that the sun was going to come out. Just give it a chance. So I proceeded to set up. When I was looking at the angle I saw the water starting to flow through the two rock as the tide started to rise. Everything just seemed like signs showing me where I needed to set up and take the shot.

Editing

I used Lightroom cc. I played a little with the exposure, vibrancy and contrast.

In my camera bag

To be honest. It depends on what I'm going to shoot. I do a lot of extreme sport shooting to. So I got to set up the night before.

Feedback

I always have thought that what's the right way to shoot? What's the right settings? The best way I found is to go inspect the sight you going to be shooting. Looking at what gear you think you'll need to have for that shoot. I also find that I try not to force a shot. But to just let it happen. They always seem to come out more natural.
