Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the Sarbsko lake close to the little town of Now?cin in a north part of Poland.

Time

The picture was taken just right after the sunrise started, around 5 am. I was really glad, that the day before I visited this side of the lake, as I knew where the sun will be located at that time and what I would like to photograph. It was my first time shooting sunrise and I was just amazed how tranquil a touristic place can look. It was worth getting up early even though it was my day off!

Lighting

The light was spectacular on its own. A gentle fog spread across the lake added even more softness to the background of the image.

Equipment

I used Sony A7 Mark II with a 35mm lens. I used tripod to stabilize my image.

Inspiration

I love landscape photography, traveling, and just being out there around nature, far away from big cities. Also, I always find sunrise pictures being just spectacular. Getting up early, usually seems impossible for me during regular working week, so when I got some days off I decided that I will get up every day to shoot sunrises. The reality was more challenging than I thought! Fortunately on the last day of my holiday I managed to get out of the bad at 4 am, and drive towards the lake and just marvel the beggining of the day, without any tourist around, just my family and my camera.

Editing

I didn't do any major post-processing, just slight adjustments of white balance and highlights done in Lightroom on a single raw file.

In my camera bag

I do not have a lot of equipement in my bag, as I am just an amatour hobbyist who starts to collect the basics. For now I just carry around my Sony A7 mark II camera, with Carl Zeiss 35 mm, F2,8 lens and ND32 filter. For this shot I also had a borrowed tripod.

Feedback

My advice is simple, motivate yourself to get up early as it is really worth it! I also found it helpful to visit the site I wanted to photograph a day before, where I could plan my pictures ahead.
