Location
This photo was taken late one Saturday night with my son beside me in a paddock in the Barossa Valley, Australia. Hence 'Blood & Thunder' My son is my blood, and the Thunder... Well that's fairly obvious!Time
As I said, late on a Saturday night, we saw the flicker of storms in the distance and couldn't help ourselves!Lighting
It was dark so it allows me to keep my ISO low, my F-stop wide open and my exposure time lengthy. It's a lot easier to control light at night.Equipment
Camera is a Nikon D5300 with a Sigma 8-16mm lens for full width. Tripod was used as some a lengthy exposure was necessary to get this shot.Inspiration
As soon as I see lightning I get excited! (We really don't get a lot here in South Australia)Editing
Very minimal colour enhancement with Lightroom... Thats it!In my camera bag
Again very minimal. My D5300 and about 3 lenses. An ND filter and a spare battery or 2.Feedback
Get out there! Putting yourself in the situation is the only way to come back with something, and be flexible, you often don't come back with what you planned and that's when some of the best results are made! Try different ISO, F-stop and exposure settings until you get your light Balance where you want it and BE PATIENT!!!
