Location
this beautiful photo was taken in Nepal, a very beautiful country with so many mountains. I can't really remember the exact location when i took this photo, but it was taken along the route from Gokyo-Chola Pass-Everest Base Camp. Hiking in Nepal can be tough especially when the altitude easily reach 5000m above the sea level. Carrying a tripod along the trek is not feasible. As a result doing a long exposure on this photo is not an option during the trek. Nepal is a very amazing country which we can be touched easily with its nature of so many great mountains and also the culture and the people. I do remember the first time when i was in the country, standing under the root of a mountain, i tear. I just realise how great can the nature be. I start to learn photography for a year plus, and i always like to immerse myself into nature and shooting the beauty of the nature environment.Time
It was on the mid of the day where the sun is rising just high up on the sky. Zooming into the peak of the mountain is just a big surprise to me as the snow have covered part of the mountain and form so many layers of snow which create such a dramatic contrast as compared to the structure of the mountain. A balance between the softness of the snow and the details of the peak.Lighting
What come into my mind after i look on the photo in raw file, why don't i try to fake the movement of the clouds on the sky? The detail structure of the peak and the soft texture of the snow creates a very unique contrast, if i can fake the movement of the clouds, it would definitely look great, so i try it out and the outcome was superb.Equipment
Olympus OMD EM1, M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40mm F2.8 PRO . F8.0, 1/800s, ISO 100.Inspiration
Nepal is a beautiful country , we can easily take many beautiful photo anywhere during the trekking journey. The only challenge is to be creative to shoot something different. In this photo for example, without the fake long exposure movement of the clouds, it is just another normal shoot of any mountain. But just because of a little effort of creativity, it makes this photo looks much more interesting.Editing
As usual, post processing of the mountain to bring out the structure and details on the mountain , secondly i fake the clouds movement in photoshop as well to create a feel of serenity. In my camera bag
OMD em1, it was my first non point and shoot camera. My favourite lens which is always in my bag include Olympus 12-40 for landscape. A samyang 7.5 mm fish eye, which has received many good compliments in term of image quality and the price. Another favourite len is Olympus 75-300 mm zoom len, and also 45mm f1.8 prime len.Feedback
Trekking in high altitude area like Nepal is really challenging especially to us who enjoy photography. Ideally we have carry all the basic gears for photography, including a tripod and some filters. However it is not practical to do so when we are trekking on high altitude, just imagine how tough it is to struggle for taking in more breaths just after we walk few steps. Learning some basics techniques in photoshop is definitely very essential, for example sky replacement, or fake long exposure. we won't have plenty of time to go to same spots continuously just to look for the right moment with perfect weather condition, perfect golden hour for a beautiful photo. To solve this, photoshop is the key.
