'Twas the last night of the Great Ocean Road section of our Road Trip. My son Mitch and I decided to skip the more common 12 Apostles lookout, and head down to the beach at Gibson Steps. The sky was quite overcast, but there appeared to be sliver of light trying to push through on the horizon, out over the ocean. Over the next 30mins, as the sun slowly sank, the light coming from the horizon slowly increased. Suddenly the most amazing pink and purple light was filling the sky all around us. Such a memorable sunset to share with each other!

This photo photo was taken on the Gibson Steps Beach / 12 Apostles, Great Ocean Road, Victoria, AustraliaTime
It was just on sunset, the sky was quite heavy with cloud cover ... not much chance of the awesome sunset we had been hopping for. This was the last evening of this stage of our Photography Roadtrip. My son Mitch and I are both keen photographers and bushwalkers. Each year we try and get a way for a couple of weeks on a roadtrip and combine the two with some camping as well. On this trip we headed south into Victoria.Lighting

This was shot with a Canon 70D - on loan from my son! :) I used my Tamron 10-24mm lens, at 10mm. Mounted on a tripod, no flash.Inspiration
The previous 3 nights had not provided any real colour, just a golden glow, which was nice. We had been shooting to the west of here, high up on the main lookout. Shooting pics of the main 12 Apostles. This evening we decided to take a chance and try a new location.Editing
Some post-processing - I find most of my landscapes benefit from some processing. In Lightroom, a little straightening - the tripod was sitting on the sand and had moved a little :). Shadows and highlights adjusted, a boost to some colours and sharpening. In my camera bag
Over the past 5 years I've been learning photography with my trusty Canon 550D. Back then I spent quite a bit of time researching my move from point-n-shoot and determined that the 550D was going to be the one. It's been great! So in my bag was the 550D, the Tamron 10-24mm, my learning lens the Tamron 18-270mm AND my on loan Canon 70D. Mitchell my son had recently purchased a new camera and said I was welcome to use his 70D for a few months, as I'm also looking to move on from the 550D. Also a couple of spare batteries, a Canon 430ex FlashFeedback
Be patient but be there! Get out there and shoot! as a dearly departed ol' mate used to say "Be the Camera!" :)
