This was one of three looks we shot here at our studio in the beautiful Hunterdon county NJTime
We usually start our sessions out first thing in the morning, this gives us plenty of time for the shoot and if we have another idea we it leaves some time top try something after the session. This photo shoot was back in August of 2014 with model/singer/actress Kelly Reiter, we had MUA Jamie Lyn Mencher on hand that day.Lighting
Because this is a profile shot I wanted the Bowens Gemini 500R in front of Kelly with a 22" beauty dish (with diffuser), I want a nice even lighting on the background which I was able to accomplish with the other two Bowens mono lights.Equipment
The shoot was for the photographic company that sponsors us Savage Universal. They provided the seamless paper background (#34 Olive Green). My main body is the Nikon D4 and my Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 lens attached, the lights triggered with PocketWizard Plus III transceivers, and the 3 Legged Thing Frank tripod supports for a good part of the shoot...the lily was from the garden outside our studio.Inspiration
After some test shots with the olive green background the "mood" of the look came to me so we went with a look that would be almost timeless, sort of bridal/fantasy beauty look.Editing
We stick to pretty standard editing, exposure adjustments if needed, white balance, cropping and so on. The light worked well with the make-up done so nothing really needed to be done blemish wise, plus Kelly has some amazing skin.In my camera bag
For most of our shoots the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 stays on camera and the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 is near if we want to go a bit wider, my days off I put on the Sigma 180mm f2.8 macro lens as I frequently run outside to photograph insects. 3 Legged thing frank tripod goes with us most everywhere, love the fact one of the legs can be converted into a mono pod.Feedback
Most of the shoots I take the time to do light tests and set-up, this way the crew does not have to wait on me and when the model is in the make up chair I can fine tune the set up. What I found is really helpful is using a light stand with a Styrofoam wig head attached, once you have the models height you can adjust your test model for light and framing test shots
