Location
This photo was taken in Lisbon, near a place that for it's architectural surroundings, is of great inspiration for a photographer. I love this part of the city because of the challenges that always provides everytime I go there. You have to stop, look and be aware of where you are to be able to capture an image that says something. That is the main challenge.Time
I wanted to do this shot a log time ago, and I knew I would need some clouds to achieve some movement in the sky. I Also knew, that to get some reflected light by the windows and some shadows on the walls, the best time would be between 10am and noon. I arrived some time before to have the time to look for the best angle and prepare my gear.Lighting
As I already mentioned, i love the contrast between the lighting caused by the reflections and the darker areas of the buildings, so for me, for this kind of shot, light is very important, to be able to achieve a good result. I always visit the places I intend to photograph to check how the light behaves.Equipment
For this shot, I used a Canon 5D MK II, a 17-40mm lens, and an equipment called Camranger to help me position the camera in the best angle without trial and error, since my camera was almost touching the floor.Inspiration
The fist moment I saw this place, I imagined an image right there. My inspiration doesn't have a name since I see hundreds of photos almost everyday and I'm sure that it has some effect in my work and in my learning process.Editing
For this shot, I used Lightroom to enhance some of the darker areas and some of the highlights, and a final touch to the general tones. The sky effect, is achieved naturally by the long exposure, that in this case was of 120s.In my camera bag
I always try to be very selective about the gear that I carry around. Usually, besides my 5D MK II camera, I take my 17-40m f/4L lens, my 50mm 1.4 and my 24-105 f/4L lens with me. I always carry my ND filters as well.Feedback
Every city has some architectural gems, and the main thing for those who like these kind of photos is to visit those places, study them, how light behaves, how different perspectives work and go for it. See related work and try to learn from what you see and like. With patience, and perseverance you can achieve everything!
