This is a truly stunning image of a majestic mountain, proving that beautiful Wales can hold it's own with the great landscapes of the world. Congratulations, Melanie, on winning the B&W Wow contest - a worthy winner. Very well done

This so amazing. It brings back so many emotions and memories. It's so deep. I love it. Amazing work. The light, shadows, everything.

Location
This shot was taken by Llynnau Mymbyr, a popular location for photographers by the lake, at the foothills of Moel Siabod, Snowdonia, North Wales.Time
This is one of my favourite images of the famous Snowdon Horseshoe. I was driving from home to pick up my other half from work in the local climbing shop. I made sure I was early as I love the woods on the other side of the lake. I had my favourite Sigma Macro lens as I was planning on taking shots of flowers and mushrooms in the woods. I lost track of time, happened to notice sun was on its way down behind the peaks, I walked quickly out of the woodland by the lake towards the car, trying to ignore that little voice in my head that was telling me to stop for 5 minutes and take a photo of the popular mountain range on the horizon, Snowdon Horseshoe. As the clouds parted, I did walk towards the edge of the lake and set up my tripod , took 5 shots, with my 105mm Macro lens..I have 3 shots which are my favourite and this is one of them, one of them I had made into a canvas and gave it to my mum for Christmas & I have a copy of this on my wall at homeLighting
The light is thanks to Mother Nature just doing her thing, and me being there at the right time of day, so knowing the location is key, so you aren't waiting around for hours for the right light, but, if you are in a beautiful location, theres nothing better than losing a few hours exploring whilst you wait for the right conditions, you might just find another great shot whilst you are exploring...Equipment
Shot using my old Canon 1200D, Sigma 105mm Macro lens, Tripod - Sirui. I now have a Canon 6D and use her more often. The macro lens is still my favourite lens.Inspiration
The mountains, how can you not be inspired by them?Editing
The shot ws taken in colour and changed to black and white in Silver Efex, minimal editing in Lightroom. In my camera bag
My favourite Camera body is my full frame Canon 6D and my Sigma Macro lens 105mm. I live in North Wales, its usually raining, so a few lens cloths are always handy, and a few cheap shower hats to shield the camera from the rain& salty air as I also love walks on the North Wales beaches, Newborough on Anglesey is a favourite.Feedback
I don't often plan a shot, as they tend not to have the emotion that I was looking to capture. Usually they just happen when I have no expectation. I prefer the moody cloudy shots to a clear summer sky, so thankfully living in the UK, we get quite a lot of moody skies. So I take my Lowe Pro rucksack and camera gear with tripod with me...just in case..
