Better picture of a Metra train than I have taken.

Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in a small town in Illinois. There is a quaint little restaurant that the train stops at...seemed like a perfect opportunity.

Time

This was at the end of a photo shoot. The sun was really low at this point but we couldn't let the sitting train go to waste. The sun was setting behind the train and barley peeking over the top. The model had the great idea to dress in 50's attire and it worked perfectly with this location!

Lighting

My favorite time of day to do outdoor photo shoots is early morning and at sunset. The light hit the top of the train just perfectly!

Equipment

I used my Canon t3i and my 18-55mm stock lens. There was no flash involved as I really wanted the lens flare.

Inspiration

There is nothing I love more than a model with an idea...or a model who will take my idea and run with it. This model decided she wanted to do a 50 style photo shoot...this was one of my favorite outfits. Such a beautiful model. Part of her always seemed to be running away, the train was a perfect way to represent that.

Editing

The original photo is actually quite dark as the sun was setting behind the train. Using Paint Shop Pro I adjusted the brightness and used some of Jessica Drossin's lightscapes to enhance the flare that was naturally on the photo.

In my camera bag

I am a minimalist photographer. I usually leave the house with just my camera body and one lens. I try to make it work with whatever I am shooting. I usually have my 18-55mm lens.

Feedback

Lighting is everything! Having the light in the background and then peeking through an object makes for amazing photos.
