Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at Thorung La Pass on 5,416 m above sea level - the culmination spot of the Annapurna Circle Trek (Nepal, Annapurna region).

Time

-20ºC in the night, strong wind, 2-3 m of fresh snow under the feet.

Lighting

Just before the sunrise it's a very good time for night photography. It brings simply beautiful colors to the dark starry sky.

Equipment

I used Canon EOS 6D + Canon EF 15mm f/2.8.

Inspiration

Himalayas and the Milky Way - this pair is always inspires me to keep going in photography.

Editing

Usually I spend many hours to make the photo look like I want. First I've corrected the main features in Lightroom and then it was quite a long time spent in Photoshop. I don't have any tips or special concept about post-processing of my shots, especially night one's. Each time it's a long and interesting journey before I'm satisfied with a result.

In my camera bag

Now I'm using Canon EOS 5D mark III camera and a half dozen of lenses which I always carry with me. They are: Canon EF 15mm f/2.8 fisheye, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8, Canon EF 135mm f/2.0 (this one is my favorite), Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8, Canon EF 14mm f/2.8.
