Behind The Lens
Location
I was wondering around the wilderness of Colorado, as I have often done, and my gaze turned to the ground where so many of us ignore in favor of the trail or mountain ahead.Time
I believe this was taken around mid-day. It was not a planned shot, so I could have probably taken this at any time during daylight hours.Lighting
A little cloud cover may be less than ideal for landscapes, but I have often found that the even lighting can be quite good for macro work.Equipment
This shot was taken a while ago, but I believe I used my old Canon 70D and a 100mm macro lens. The shot was handheld.Inspiration
I was drinking water in the middle of a forest and I spent a lot of time looking at the different plants around me. This shot only became my favorite after downloading the image set.Editing
I always use minimal (realistic) processing, but I'm sure I would have improved the contrast at least. I'm interested in revisiting this image using my current processing preferences to see how things have changed. In my camera bag
I travel relatively light and try to select the lens I expect to need for the day. Occasionally I will carry two bodies and two lenses ready to go, but I usually skip the tripods and flashes. I always have spare batteries, flash cards and cleaning cloths.Feedback
Just pay attention to your surroundings. Many of my best shots were afterthoughts!
