This was taken on the south rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona while on a all guys trip with my brother and dad.Time
This was taken during the morning hours just as the sun was rising. If you have not caught a sunrise at the Grand Canyon, you should put this on the must do list!Lighting
The lighting of the Grand Canyon is one of the tough and tricky things about capturing images of this natural beauty. This was taken shortly after sunrise where the sun is constantly bombarding the canyon walls with varying light as the sun rises. If there is something you don't like about the light while taking photos there....just wait a moment and it will be different. The shadows will move, the highlights will change, the colors will vary. It's amazing how natural light affects this great wonder!Equipment
Canon 5d Mark III on tripod with a Canon 24-105 mm f/4.0 L lensInspiration
I was inspired to take this photo because I wanted to experience three things while at the Grand Canyon. I wanted to capture a sunset. Check. I wanted to see the multitudes of stars in the vast dark skies over the canyon. Check. Lastly, I wanted to capture a sunrise so I could experience the natural beauty that the canyon provides as the sun pours over the walls and floors of the canyon. With this picture...I can say CHECK!Editing
Through post processing, I adjusted the white balance, opened up the shadows, turned down the highlights and made the lens corrections. All pretty minor adjustments. In my camera bag
I typically have a Canon 5d Mark III with the following lens: Canon 16-35mm f/2.8 L, Sigma 50mm f/1.4, Canon 135mm f/2.0 L, Canon 24-105 f/4.0 L Canon 24-70 f/2.8 II L, Canon 70-200 f/2.8 II L, Canon 2x TC III, Canon 580 ex ii Speedlite Flash Sigma 2x TC Sigma 1.4 TC Canon IntervalometerFeedback
An adventure to Grand Canyon National Park should be on everyone's list who loves photography! The canyon is actually something that is hard to capture the FULL beauty of because of its massive scale. The best way to capture the canyon is always grab a few shots with people in the frame. When you capture people in the frame with the canyon it gives the viewer something to scale the shot from and will provide the viewer with the WOW moment! Challenge yourself to find unique ways to insert people from AFAR into the frame and your pictures will come to life!
