Taken at Jomtien Beach Thailand on my trip in 2012. Located adjacent to Pattaya beach and about 1 and half hours from Bangkok.
With all the cloud cover, prior to this shot it was very dull looking. My wife and kids were waiting for me and I almost walked away. I caught a break when the sun lit up the bottom of the clouds.
I attempted to do my best color correcting the image. The filters I was using caused it to go purple. Also there was quite a bit of trash on the ground and some people in the shot.

Your work is incredible, defining moments, like this chair..........and my take on sitting at the water's edge. Amazing the way your sky transforms itself across the natural horizon. I love it. Masterfully done.

Thank you for your comment! This is by far my favorite photo I took while in Thailand. I am really lucky to get this shot. The man taking care of the chairs there was nice enough to let me use it while he was putting all the others away. Even the people that were aware of what I was doing kindly walked around me. The only thing I could wish for there is that people clean up after themselves.

Location
On vacation at Jomtien Beach, Thailand 2012.Time
Taken at Sunset. It was a heavy overcast that day and uncomfortably humid.Lighting
Just before the shot, the lighting was very dull and flat. Nothing was getting through those clouds.I almost left the beach because my wife and kids wanted to go. As I was putting away my gear, sunlight lit up sky in red orange. I set my camera back up, composed the shot, and kept shooting till there was no light.Equipment
Canon 5DMkII, Canon 24-70 f2.8 Manfrotto 055CX3 Carbon Fiber Tripod, Manfrotto 488RC2 Ball Head, Hitech 85mm filter holder, Hitech 3 stop and 2 stop hard edge ND filters stacked, Canon Remote release.Inspiration
My vacation in Thailand was close to ending and I was focused on getting a nice sunset photo before going home. When I got to the beach I saw the colorful chairs and thought it would be the perfect foreground element.Editing
I've boosted the colors a little and tried to remove a lot of the purple by adding green and using a graduated mask. I also increased the clarity to get a little more out of the sky. The most difficult was removing the person that was opposite the chair. I believe I used the healing brush and clone stamp tool. The other kids and rubbish in the sand was easier to clean up.In my camera bag
Since that shot, I've switched to Fujifilm XT-1 and shoot almost exclusively with models. I love the EVF! My main lenses are the 35mm and 56mm. The FF equivalent being 50 and 85. In my bag I always have the Color Checker Passport, Lens Pen, 3 extra batteries, and 4 extra SD cards. The Tenba Switch 10 is my main bag. Shooting on location I use the Think Tank Pro Speed Belt, Skin Body Bag to hold my camera with lens attached, Speed Changer with my secondary lens in it and accessories.Feedback
I always use the live view when I shoot landscapes. If you're going to buy ND filters, I recommend the Lee Filters. I don't have issues with color cast using those. Don't stay in one spot. Move around and try to find another interesting perspective. I like to look for pools of water to get a reflection of the sky. I also will adjust the shutter speed to vary the look of the waves.
