This p[cture brings back a lot of memories from Alberta.The fog moves in at night coating the trees .Then in the morning magic the trees cover with fog frost.Just beautiful.Congrats.

Thank you very much for the comment. I awoke one morning to this weather and as I'd only had the camera for a couple of months decided to take advantage of the conditions in my local park. This shot is probably the best of all the ones I took that day.

Behind The Lens

Location

One day, in December 2010, I awoke to see that a snowfall and hard frost had descended overnight. I determined that I would take my camera to a local park, 2 minutes walk from my house.

Time

This was taken at about 11am on a very sunny, but very cold, day.

Lighting

It was just a beautiful, sunny day.

Equipment

For this shot I used a Canon EOS1000d with its 18-55mm zoom lens at 35mm. I used aperture priority, which gave an exposure of f14 @ 1/125 sec. ISO 100.

Inspiration

I came back to photography after an absence of 20 years, so I am now re-learning photographic techniques which I may have forgotten. It was the first time I had used my new DSLR in earnest. I almost always take a camera with me wherever I go. My point and shoot is usually in my pocket, for convenience, or one of my Canon DSLRs. I normally shoot whatever catches my eye (flowers, trees, landscapes, etc.) and, quite often, see things which could have been included (or excluded) from the shot, resulting in re-composing the scene. I was compelled to take this shot due to the whiteness of the trees against the blue sky, which, at the time, looked quite magnificent.

Editing

There was minimal post-processing needed, simply a little cropping to assist composition.

In my camera bag

My cameras are Canon EOS 700D with the 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 EF Lens and Canon EOS 1000D with the 18-55mm EF lens. Also comprising my kit is a Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS STM lens, Canon 75-300mm f4-5.6 EF-S lens; a Canon EFS 10-18mm f4.5-5.6 IS STM lens and a Canon EF 50mm f1.8 STM lens. All have UV filters attached.  I also have a bunch of other filters for use when required. I have two Metz Mecablitz 36 AF-5 ETTL flashguns and two Yongnuo YN560 Speedlights. Much of this is carried in a backpack, which can be quite weighty, so I now tend to take only the essentials when on assignment. I have a Hama Star 62 tripod and/or a Cobra CT19 monopod strapped to the backpack when required.

Feedback

I would simply advise taking a camera with you wherever you go, whether a simple point and shoot or DSLR. You will be surprised at the photo opportunities that you will have, which would otherwise be unseen.
