Wow. This might be one of the most creative photos I have ever seen. :)

Behind The Lens
Location
I took it near my parents house outside of the town where I take most of my photos.Time
It was late afternoon, magic hour. The sun has already hidden behind the horizon.Lighting
Only natural light. No strobes or reflectors. The sun was already behind the horizon so I could shoot backlit without the flare and haze.Equipment
I used Sony A77 and a Samyang 85mm 1.4 which is still my favorite lens even with a different camera body.Inspiration
That scene happened quite spontaneously. I wanted to take some photos of my boys in that field because of the lovely red flowers. My older one took this wooden plane and was playing with it. It turned out that my card was full so I had to delete older photos between the shots. And then my battery died. I was very lucky I managed to capture that. But I was angry at myself that I didn't check everything before I took the boys out.Editing
Yes I did some post processing. I took that photo to Photoshop because I wanted more detail in the sky than I was able to capture with just one shot. I took a second photo of the sky and I used that to replace the overexposed sky I had in the original shot. I also did some work to show some details in the shadowed area on his hair and T-shirt. Then I added a vignette and sharpened. In my camera bag
I carry a backpack with my A7 with two lenses: Samyang 85mm 1.4 and Canon 50mm 1.4. There are also extra clothes for my kids and their toys.Feedback
When you go out with your kids and try to capture similar images you have to be patient and just watch your kids as they play without interrupting them. You can't ask a two or a three year old to pose as you wish. All you need is to find a right place where your kids will feel safe and play as they usually do. Wait for the perfect time when the light is nice- magic hour photos look the best in my opinion. And then just find a good spot where you can sit with the camera in your hand and wait for the perfect moment. But remember to clean your card and check the batteries :)
