Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in my home studio in Ferrara, a little city located in the North of Italy

Time

I've shooted all the weekend experimenting several focal length, necessary for catch the perfect angle of view and the best magnification

Lighting

I've used 4 flashguns: one for the background with a honeycomb grid and a red gel, two on the left side at 45°, one one the top for emphasize the green foliage and finally one reflector on the right side.

Equipment

Canon EOS 6D camera, Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II lens, Sirui N3204 carbon fiber tripod with Sirui K40x head, n° 4 flashguns, reflectors, umbrellas & softboxes.

Inspiration

I've found several images of fruits on tables, into baskets, on trees... I wanted to make something more dynamic, more impactive to catch the attention of the viewer.

Editing

Yes, in post production I've removed the toothpick used for stabilize the subject and a little adjustment of exposure, contrast and tones.

In my camera bag

Usually I carry with me a solid Tripod (Sirui N3204), the camera (Eos 6D),a super-wide angle lens (14mm f/2.8), an wide angle zoom (Canon 16-35), a standard lens (Canon 50mm f/1.2), a telezoom (Canon 70-200 f/2.8), a teleconverter (Canon 2x), some extension tubes (Kenko), square filters (Lee Filters), a flashgun (Nissin Di866mark2) and some torches for night excursions

Feedback

My advice is always the same: carefully observe any subject, from fruit to landscapes, imagine him in a different way, experiment your ideas, try and try again! change positions, change lenses, change focus, change the light...
