This photo was taken in Cleveland Ohio on one of the coldest days there! I arrived to the Cleveland airport just that morning to a severe blizzard and heard later that the weather there had made the news Internationally!Time
The couple had planned to go to the orchestra that evening, and the bride had NO idea that I was flying in from Saskatchewan Canada. She was under the impression that a photographer friend of his was coming to take a few photos of them in their formal clothing! She had no idea that he had been in contact with me for weeks planning a special surprise for her! When I arrived in Cleveland it was around noon and I quickly got ready to drive down to meet up with the couple. The groom met me in the lobby and walked me upstairs to capture her surprise when she saw me - She was in shock and was so happy! Around supper time we headed out to take some photos of them before they headed to the Orchestra and after a few images outside in the brutal cold, he rubbed his nose to let me know he was ready. It was around 5 p.m when he dropped down to one knee with a beautiful ring. The bride was so shocked she had to back up and was just overjoyed with happiness. The emotions were so palpable, you could feel their happiness and it left me with a grin on my face for the rest of the night!Lighting
This photo was taken outdoors on a snowy cold winter day! No lighting was used, other than natural lighting!Equipment
For this image I used my Canon 6D and the lens I chose for a wide range of shots in this sequence was my 17-85mm.Inspiration
When the groom contacted me to book a session with me, I had no idea that it was the groom of a bride who just booked me for her wedding in September. I thought it was odd that two people from the same area who were both Pakistani were booking me for sessions, and when he finally told me who he was, I was elated! I had photographed the bride's brother's wedding a couple of years ago and knew that they were such an amazing family and was excited to see her again and meet him for the first time. He planned the whole thing as a surprise to her and when the moment came, it was everything I envisioned for them and more!Editing
Yes! I played with layers, brightness & contrast, and added a soft rosy warmth to the entire image. In my camera bag
I typically only carry a couple of my favorite lenses with me including my 85mm, my 18-75mm, my 75-200 and sometimes a wide angle lens depending on what I will be shooting.Feedback
Make sure you have the groom give you a heads up and use a lens with a wide range to capture as many different images as possible. Move behind the groom to get the bride's expression and then to the side to get the side view of the groom on his knee. From there, try to get as many close up images of their expressions as possible! Keep shooting, as it will be the seconds in between the big moments that capture the candid rawness of the moment.
