Location
I took this photo in Texas, in Denton County.Time
Was early afternoon of february. The light that day was amazing.Lighting
During certain days of winter the light is really fantastic. Blu sky with a beautiful sun, can create the perfect light for outdoor photography, especially during the middle of the day. The opposite of spring & summer time, when the best light is early morning or late afternoon.Equipment
I used my Nikon D600 & the Sigma 120-300 mm F2,8 DG OS HSM, together with a Manfrotto tripod and an Acratech ball head.Inspiration
I was walking around the countryside to try for the first time the new lens, when I noticed a herd of "longhorns". When I got close to them I realized that they were not the Texans Longhorns, but the African "Watusi". I got impressed by their coat and horns of course, so I place my self in the right spot to get the right sunlight angle. I wanted to see some B&W shots and I realized that they were much more interesting than the color ones. The details were more enhanced with the B&W version, so I kept shooting in this way.Editing
Really not much post production. As usual I just tried to boost little bit the contrast. I don't like too much the post production and the 100% editing of a photo. The perfect natural light is the best software you can get, to give something special to your work.In my camera bag
Hard to answer. I own several cameras & lenses, so I normally don't have a basic Kit. Normally in my bag for a basic outdoor shooting I use the Nikon D3 S & Nikon 70-200mm f2,8 VRII and the Nikon D810 & Nikon 24-70mm f 2,8. Filters, cable release, tripod & a head ball are always carried around.Feedback
This photo can represent what I use to suggest other photography. Never stop experimenting and always look for new subjects. If I did not decide to go for a long walk trip after lunch, this beautiful photo wasn't possible to get. As I mentioned before, natural light is your best software, but is not always easy to get it. Patiance is another important key in outdoor/nature photography.
