Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near my home town of Liverpool and depicts 'Another Place', an art installation by Anthony Gormley. It is one of my favourite places due to its serenity and at the same time it's hauntedness.

Time

This picture was taken on a summer's day in the late afternoon - I like going to this place after a busy day at work and it was about 7pm with not many people on the beach adding to the peacefulness that I wanted to create

Lighting

The summer sun was still in the sky but started to descend towards the horizon creating a beatiful hue in the air. Additionally the sun was reflecting against the bronze statue and I really liked the overall image that I was able to capture.

Equipment

The picture was taken on my Canon 60d with the standard lens

Inspiration

This is one of my favourite places as it is peaceful, serene and instills calmness into a hectic world.

Editing

I did do some post-processing as there were some clouds over the statue and I wanted to introduce some movement around it in order to depict the theme of 'standing still' - adding the effect of movement and increasing the saturation in the picture really underlined the standing still in time concept

In my camera bag

As a self tought photographer I am still building up my equipment but generally I always take a few filters, my standard lens and of course my camera.

Feedback

I feel that the light was particularly important in this picture and being out in the field shooting this concept on several occasions meant that I have different versions of this - I tried different times of days and each time the pictures come out in a completely different way, creating different moods.
