Wonderful ......it would fit our project Opera which also has ballet and contemporary dance....if you wanted to look at it and add it in. We would love it....I think the contrast is great here.

Behind The Lens

Location

Triskelion Arts - Performing Arts Theater & rehearsal space. It's in an old industrial building in Brooklyn, NY that hosts both performances & classes.

Time

This had to be a quick shoot as you had to book a rehearsal space for a limited block of time. I'm glad I was able to get in, set up, and get the shot I wanted before having to pack up and be out of the studio.

Lighting

This dancer was amazing. I asked to do something that I was beginning to think was not possible as I had asked several dancers before her to do the same thing. She was not only able to do it but came up with a way to make it possible that no one else could do. Of course the perfectionist artist in her picked out flaws in her body position. So untrue, she was absolutely perfect!

Equipment

Canon 5D, 580EX on camera flash with a ring flash attachment, handheld, and Photoshop for post processing.

Inspiration

A long time ago a saw and image that absolutely mesmerized me. It was different from every other image I had seen because most images are a moment frozen in time or ones that capture the motion of things but this one was somewhere between static and moving. It had tension the gripped my eyes and I could not look away. Ever since then I have been trying to recreate that feeling in my work.

Editing

I wanted to strip away all that was unnecessary so that the viewer only had one thing to focus on so I took out the color, cleaned up debris, and added a vignette.

In my camera bag

Canon 5D, 580EX, Ring flash attachment, Manfrotto ball head tripod, circular polarizer, extra batteries.
