Location
I took this photo on top of Stanage Edge, in the beautiful Peak District national park, Derbyshire England.Time
This was taken around sunset, which in November is approximately 5:30pm ish!.Lighting
I wanted to capture the sun as it headed behind the distant hills, with the last of its light casting its warm glow over the foreground rocks.Equipment
This image was captured using a Canon 1DX, Canon 16-35mm 2.8LII lens, Kirk ball head, Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod and i also used a Lee filters 0.6 ND grad filter to holdback the exposure in the sky.Inspiration
I happend to be out on a hike with some friends and that day i had my camera gear with me. I kept an eye on the changing light and thought that it showed some potential. As we made our was a cross the moors i had an image in my head that i wanted to try to capture. This image in my opinion wouldn't have worked at all if the light didn't break through the clouds the way it did at that moment. What was most inspiring was the way the golden light illuminated the far off hills creating a night contrasty scene, this inspired me to take out my camera and start snapping away.Editing
I did some lens correction, boosted the shadows, improved the saturation and sharpened the image in photoshop. A lot of the image was captured in camera, with the highlights being controlled nicely by a ND graduated filter being placed over the lens.In my camera bag
I typically carry my Canon 1DX, Canon 16-35mm 2.8LII, Canon 24-105mm L, Canon 70-200mm 2.8LII and sometimes my Canon 50mm 1.4. I also have my trusty Canon G12 point and shoot camera with me too.Feedback
I would say get to know what time the sun sets and where it will be at sunset. This can really help you when it comes to composing you shot. It can also really help to do some homework before going out on a photographic trip. Research and find the best photo locations, i find it helps if i have an idea of the location before i get there too, this can help me prepare for what kind of image i want to capture.
