Location
The photo was taken in Lowertown St. Paul, Minnesota.Time
It was probably around 9-10pm at night; maybe later.Lighting
All natural lighting, but a long exposure was necessary.Equipment
Nikon D800 with a Nikon 17-35 f/4 lens, on a tripod.Inspiration
I love architecture and history. Above me is the (now) restored Union Depot in downtown St. Paul, which was another destination the night I took this photo.Editing
This was converted to black and white using Silver EFX and Photoshop, single RAW file.In my camera bag
Nikon D600, Nikon D800 and a Nikon F100 (film camera). I now have a Tokina 16-28 f2.8, and a Nikon 28-70 f2.8 with several b+w filters (3-stop, 6-stop and a 2-stop split ND). Sometimes throw the Nikon 85mm 1.4D in the as well.Feedback
I scout out locations all of the time. I'd been wanting to go to shoot these pillars for quite a while. Finally, on a slow weeknight, I went down to check it out. Being a weekday and in the evening, traffic was very light and I didn't have to worry much about pedestrian traffic either.
