Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a train museum in Foley AL.

Time

It was taken around 530 pm.

Lighting

The ambient light was still pretty bright when i took this one but i wanted to give the impression it was taken at night. To accomplish this i simply brought my shutter speed up. The subject was then lit with a single strobe.

Equipment

I used my canon 1 ds mark ii with a 75 to 300 lens. Plus my Einstein strobe set off with a cyber commander trigger.

Inspiration

I have always loved the old Humphrey Bogart movies . The lighting and the feel and although i started this shoot with a more comical concept even using a different male model. I could not pass up the chemistry between these to talented people. They took on the characters and i seen a story unfold. So rather then bagging the camera i just kept shooting. It took on a more editorial style at the end they did there thing and i captured the story they told.

Editing

The post work yeah where do i start. The goal was to give it the appearance of night so as i worked with it. i seen a cinematic color to give more of the nostalgic feel adding clarity and tweaking the curves as i went. As most images i edit i just added a adjustment layer and kept going till i liked what i seen.

In my camera bag

I keep the 1ds mark ii with a filter kit. lenses 50 mm 1.4 sigma, canon 75 to 300 4.0, canon 70 to 200 l 4.0, tokin 19 to 75 2.0 . extra batteries for everything.

Feedback

Don't put your camera up till everyone is gone you never know when a story will unfold!!
