Behind The Lens

Location

This is a composite (2) photos. The photo of the dear was taken mid-day just east of Murdock, WA. and the sunset photo was taken in the Sierra Nevada Mt's southwest of Twain Harte, CA.

Time

The Deer photo was taken in the early evening and the sunset shot was taken between 8-9pm.

Lighting

I love to shoot anything with lots of colors on nice days, water falls or moving water on cloudy days and at night I love to shoot the Milky-way and or moon lit shots. Just try anything and everything and you will learn. You can't fail because you will learn what will not work and how to make great shots.

Equipment

Deer Photo-Nikon D7000, Sigma 17-70mm F/2.8-4.0 at 62mm (ISO 160, 5.6 at 1/800), Manfroto Tri-pod with ball head. Sunset Photo-Nikon D3200, Nikkor 55-300mm F/4.5-5.6 at 300mm (ISO 400, 5.6 at 1/500).

Inspiration

I made this composite for a VB contest.

Editing

This photo is a composite of a day time photo of the deer was extracted from the orig. photo and it is blacked out using Adobe Photoshop and then put together in Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Most of the time I carry at least two camera's. The newest is a Nikon D6II (love it!) and a Nikon D750, Camera/lens rain cover. Lenses: Z 24-70/4 S, Z to F mount adaptor, Nikkor AF 28-300mm 3.5/5.6G, Nikkor DX AF 18-140mm 3.5-5.6G ED, Tokina SD 16-28mm F2.8 (IF) FX, Nikkor AF-S 50mm 1.4 G, Nikkor AF-S 24-120mm 1.4 G ED, Sigma DC 17-70mm 2.8-4 Macro HSM, Tamron-F AF Tele-Converter 2x N-AFs BBAR MC7, 12,20,36mm Extension Yube's, SB-600 Speed Lite, Manfrodo Tri-pod, Wired and Wireless remotes. All carried in a Weather Proof Back-Pak (sometimes a hard case)

Feedback

One of the main differences an normal person and a pro is when your are driving along and you think you see a possible photo go by. A pro will turn around and get the shot and most will keep going and hope they can get it another time and when they go back to it, it may not be there anymore.
