Absolutely love this little fellow!!! Great job chasing him down and then waiting. That's what I do also, but your shot is soooo much sharper than mine. Did you use a tripod at all? Most macro shots of bugs you can't use one. Great job!

your pov gives this tiny beast a softness and the illusion of a shy personality. great portraiture. AND you've inspired me to let the milkweed grow!

Great shot of a Milkweed Beetle. I keep a patch of milkweed in my yard just for these guys. I am impressed with the clarity.

Thank you Melanie, I have a patch of the Milkweed myself. I planted it for Monarch Butterflies but then these little funny beetles showed up as an added bonus! Thank you kindly!

Location
This photo was taken in the sideyard of my home where I have allowed milkweed to grow because the Monarch butterflies need this plant to survive!Time
This was taken late morning about 11:00amLighting
Tree filtered sunlight. I would never dreamed it would get this much notoriety?Equipment
I used a Canon 6D with a recently purchased 100/f2.8 Canon Macro L that was handheld (no flash)Inspiration
I was experimenting with my new Canon 100/f2.8 Macro L and noticed this little red beetle on the milkweed leaves and he did not want to be photographed or at least have this large object pointed at him! After playing hide and seek for awhile I noticed he was on the backside of this leaf and so I waited patiently for him to appear! Later I did a little research to find out what type of beetle this little guy was and low and behold he was a Milkweed Beetle (how ironic)Lol.Editing
Processed in Lightroom with manipulation of detail, clarity, contrast and vibrance. In my camera bag
I have a Canon 5D MK III & 7D MK II body & Canon 17-40/4 L, Canon 100/f2.8 Macro L and Tamron 100-400/f5.6Feedback
Macro photography is my favorite because of the unique world it brings to your eye and that it is usually overlooked by most of us humans. However, there are certain new adjustments that must be made to tackle Macro photography. In the old days of film or even a few years ago in digital, one really needed to use a tripod to get sharp macro images but now with the newer SLR processors and sensors, handheld low light photography is now doable! The photographer must always keep in mind the depth of field in macro is a fraction of inches to inches, instead of inches to feet! The green out of focus "bokeh" background is only a foot away and this was shot at 1/100 and f11 and I never use flash!
