Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Cagliari in Sardinia (Italy) on 1 May 2014, and it depicts 3 girls (the three widows) of the folk group of Barrali during the celebration of the feast of the Holy of our region "Sant'Efisio". Festival that takes place every year since 1657, with the participation of hundreds of groups from across the region. This is the 1st of the 60 shots published on my album "A day of passion" where I captured the event.

Time

This pic has been taken the may 1st 2014 in Cagliari at the 9am the weather was pretty good and the sun light amazing!

Lighting

As regards the light since the early hours of the day was slightly veiled by clouds and reflected on the front face of the girls. In all honesty, the lighting in the shots that I ran was the real trump card!

Equipment

The equipment used: Nikon D5200 with Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 lens, Hoya Pro1 CPL HD filter and Meike battery grip (which helped me a lot during the hundred shots made), Samsung 64 GB micoSD card, no flash used!

Inspiration

The things which inspired me were the multitude of colors that surrounded me, the beauty of the people and the simplicity that made this event unique. Specifically, in this shot I managed to capture the face expression of our people (a mix between faith, passion and suffering). The geometric lines of the 3 widows with the particualr DOF used, the magical light that illuminates the faces and the warm colors of our land represented by the secualr clothes which they wear proudly.

Editing

1st step i used LR4 for the basic settings after it has been processed into PSC6 using an action created by me which gaves the raw warm tones to the pic. nothing more! Between these are the Efix data: f/2 Time exp: 1/1000 ISO 200 Mod: A focal lenght: 50mm

Feedback

Plan your shots. Prepare yourself for the event and think how they would like to see. Check where will your work will facilitate you a lot because you can just focus on what will be the result. Do not limit the shots just to a style but experiments as possible as you can and don't get any anxiety to see your photos on the display. But my first rule is "do not have rules" and have fun!
