This type of shot requires either the lens mentioned above...the only one of it's kind...or extension tubes. Using the 65mm which gives 1X-5X life size reproduction can be tricky because of an extremely narrow DOF and low light at these magnifications, I always use f/16....hence the flash is necessary. The working distance is short...about 4 inches....another complication. I prefer bracing the stem or leaf the subject is on against the front of the lens to allow optimum focusing. This assumes of course that the subject stays put which only happens a small percentage of the time. Practice, practice, practice is the key and the results can be rewarding.
