Location
Edgar's Mission Farm Sanctuary - AustraliaTime
Golden Hour - just before sunsetLighting
I used backlighting from the sun, slightly off centre and was magically surprised by the pockets of light that were caught by the camera. These were thousands of little insects flying around which were beautifully backlit and created lovely pockets of light.Equipment
Canon 1DX, 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM IIInspiration
I had been seeing a lot of beautiful backlit photographs and decided i needed to try it out :)Editing
I cropped the image, added some contrast and saturation, added a radial gradient and slight vignettingIn my camera bag

I would recommend getting to your location about an hour and a half before sunset and start experimenting by taking many different photos. When photographing animals I prefer to get down to their level by squatting or sitting on the floor. For this type of photograph I recommend a telephoto lens otherwise the light from the sun will cause havoc with your metering. Try spot metering so that your subject is metered for correctly and then darken the background in post. Looks for something new and creative and always enjoy the moment creating the photographs and have fun :)
