Behind The Lens

Location

I made this photograph in the Muraleando neighborhood of Havana, Cuba.

Time

This was taken in the early afternoon.

Lighting

Natural light.

Equipment

Canon 40D. Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens Lens Hood

Inspiration

I was sitting on a bench across from this gentleman and I thought his face was so interesting that I just had to capture it. I asked him if I could take his picture, he said "Yes." and her it is.

Editing

I used Photoshop CC and NIK software to convert the original color image to black and white.

In my camera bag

I currently have a Canon 7D with an Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens. I also carry a Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens and a Tamron AF 60mm f/2.0 SP DI II LD IF 1:1 Macro Lens. I also carry a Hoodman HoodLoupe Optical Viewfinder for sunny days. A Gorilla tripod. A pad and pen for notes and sketches of images I have taken or are planning to take. Several power bars. A Leatherman - for a number of miscellaneous duties and some duct tape wrapped on a pencil.

Feedback

Street photography can be risky, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Sometimes I grab an image without asking permission (if I am in a public place), but I ask permission more often than not. I find it is easier to ask permission than have someone get a bit crazy in public!
