For me, this shot conjures up memories of when I was in Samburu, and a very clever baboon decided to come right into our tent and steal all of the sugar packets and fruit... right before our eyes! ( brazen little buggers! ) With this shot, you have captured their mischievous nature with such beauty and clarity. Love it.

I love animals of all kinds but monkeys are my favorite. This opportunity arose when I was visiting my son who lives in Indonesia. The long tailed macaques are revered in Bali and the sanctuary is an area where 4 troupes live. There were several mothers there when we visited many of them nursing, hugging or otherwise hiding in their mother's fur. When I saw this little guys hand peak out over his mother's thigh , I waited patiently, not moving at a distance that didn't spook the Mom. Soon thereafter, out popped the infant monkey's head and I was able to get a couple of very special picturesEditing
I cropped the picture using the rule of thirds, darkened the highlights and sharpened the facial detailsIn my camera bag

Be patient with wildlife in general and especially with animals that seem somewhat comfortable around humans like these macaques. Monkeys make great subjects because of their human-like faces and behaviors. Anticipating their behavior by watching them for a while will help get you the shot. I've gotten great photos of Howler monkeys in Costa Rica, the temple monkeys of Sri Lanka and the macaques in Bali. In all three cases, I watched for a while to see how they responded to human interaction and how they interacted with each other. The more I watched, the more I understood and the better my pictures got. And I always focus on the eyes. A blurry pair of eyes will ruin an otherwise great photo
