AfternoonLighting
I used an on camera flash that was bounced of a wall just a two or three feet away. The subject was also standing close to the wall, and it produced a soft effect that looks a lot like natural light.Equipment
Canon rebel 450d with an 18-55mm kit lens and third party flash.Inspiration
I was just playing around with my new flash and ended up really liking the expression on my nephew's face as well as the lighting.Editing
I studied as a painter and that often influences my photography. Here I wanted to give the image a painterly quality so I played with the colors of the shadows and added texture to the background. In my camera bag
These day I shoot with a Canon 6d and favor my 135mm f/2. I also have a 50mm 1.4 and a wide angle. I have several speedlites and gels Also various stands and tripods and filters.Feedback
This was shot indoors with a flash on camera, so it would be easy to do something similar at any time of day. I started with an uncluttered background and bounced the flash off of the wall rather than the ceiling. The walls were not white, but light blue, but if you are shooting RAW then you should be able to adjust the WB to tame the color cast you get from the wall.
