"I was born 35 years ago in Minsk, Belarus. As for my professional career in a nutshell, I have started 10 years ago as a self-taught young photographer with a sole aim to try a new thing. I was between jobs at that time, trying to find my way in mass media and advertising. With no profit in mind, I took photography as a serious hobby, experimenting mainly with black-and-white films. I tried all films I could get in my locality. For the first year I shot and developed about 100 rolls of Svema, Foma, Kodak and Ilford. Being a newcomer in the world of photography, I was amazed how black-and-white negative reproduced what I saw through my camera, catching all lights and shadows. I made discoveries every day and learned with each roll I took out of developing tank. 3 years later I made a jump to medium format with a nice set of Mamiya TLR. Photography for me is a great escape from reality, a visual wandering, that I try to make by imagination and technical means, that distort the vision - films, long exposures, tilt-shift technique, etc. I use full-frame digital 35 mm camera for commercial works, Bronica 6x6 cm on a tripod and Yashica 6x6 cm for handheld. To name a few, I am really inspired by Mark Tucker, Josef Hoflehner, Michael Kenna, Keith Carter, Rodney Smith, Hiroshi Watanabe. Still I have a long way to go, but I like the way things go a lot." - Alexander
