Ami Vitale

Ami Vitale's journey as a photographer and filmmaker has taken her to more than 85 countries and her photographs have been commissioned by nearly every important international publication and the images have been exhibited around the world in museums and galleries.

Her work has garnered multiple awards from World Press Photos, POYi, the Lowell Thomas Award for Travel Journalism, Lucie awards, the Daniel Pearl Award for Outstanding Reporting, and the Magazine Photographer of the Year award by the National Press Photographers Association. Her stories have also been awarded numerous grants including the first-ever Inge Morath grant by Magnum Photos, the Canon female photojournalist award for her work in Kashmir, and the Alexia Foundation for World Peace supported her in work in West Africa.

She is a founding member of Ripple Effect Images, an organization of well- known scientists, writers, photographers and filmmakers with a mission of creating powerful and persuasive films and stories illustrating the very specific problems women in developing countries face and the programs that can help them. She is also a member of the Executive Advisory Committee of the Alexia Foundation’s Photojournalism Advisory Board.

She has been the Senior Producer for Multimedia, at the Knight Center for International Media where she got her Masters and worked on a project on women's pregnancy and infant mortality in Sierra Leone and a feature film about migration and climate change in Bangladesh.

She has been the subject of the documentary series “Over the Islands of Africa” and was host of a series airing in Asia for National Geographic Channel on photography.  She has judged  photo contests around the world including World Press Photos, NPPA Photographer of the Year contest,  Nikon International Photo Contest, Czech Press Photo, Ocean Conservancy's Photo Contest and many more.

Photo Format: Color, Black and White, RAW and Medium formats are accepted

Copyright: You maintain the rights to all of your submissions.

Judging: The contest submissions will be judged based on the subject matter, light, color, overall composition and on the people's choice.

Vote: From July 1st until July 15th, 2013.
