Another great contest with an even greater judge; Scott Wyden Kivowitz will be judging the Artistic Expressions photo contest and shares his top 5 tips on how to capture artistic expressions in a photo!

Scott is a photographer from New Jersey that shares his passion for photography any way he can. Scott's work consists of portraits, commercial real estate and business photography combined with landscape photographs. Scott is also the Community & Blog Wrangler at Photocrati Media teaching other photographers how to increase business through their website.

I am super excited to be judging the contest, Artistic Expression.  So I wanted to share some tips for those interested in submitting to the contest.  These are some of the creative things I will be looking at when it comes to judging the contest.

1. Photograph a dancer, but do it majestically. Think about shutter speeds and light and even the wardrobe.

2. Photograph a painter, but do it artistically. Maybe the painter is painting you, the photographer. Maybe he/she is painting a landscape and you’ve photographed the landscape with the painter painting the scene.

3. Photograph a musician in their environment. I’m not saying a standard concert photograph, but rather something more creative. Maybe the view from the end of a trombone. Or through the strings of a harp.

4. Graffiti might be illegal in most places of the world, but if you can photograph an artist leaving his/her work on a wall, but in a creative way… you’ll get attention. Maybe that person is masked. Maybe the light is creepy. Maybe it’s crossed processed. Or maybe it’s a portrait of the artist standing on top of the object he/she just painted.

5. Know anyone that is in a circus? I know someone who takes circus classes. (seriously) Find someone who practices the art of circus performing and photograph them. Think of it like a dancer, but pay attention to colors as many circus performers wear really interesting outfits.

Try some of these or expand on these with your own vision and you will get attention. Not only from me, but from your peers.
